Attention Gummy Bear Lovers!

For those that know me, I am a crazed Haribo gummy candy fan.  Since I remember making my own money from babysitting and feeling comfortable to venture to the Treat Boutique on 86th street right off of 3rd Avenue after school, I have been eating their perfectly textured sweets.  Gummy Bears (green and white are the faves but really all of them are good) and  Cola Bottles, Cherries and so on.

I call myself a connoisseur because I can tell just by the smell, a squeeze and a first bite when sweet shops are selling an imitation of my gummy kryptonite.  I certainly don’t buy them.  Instead I find the official bags of my favorites or I head to Economy Candy on Rivington Street  to buy the 5 lb bag.

I give you all of this background not to wax poetic about Haribo, but to offer my “gummy credentials” and history before recommending the Trader Joe’s Gummy Bears to my fellow gummy groupies.

While standing on that long ass line that curves around the chocolates, candies and what not I saw this friendly looking bag ($1.99).  I squeezed it for texture and was pleasantly surprised by its heft and slight “give”.  I bought one, teared it open and I have been hooked ever since.

Made with real fruit and vegetable extracts the subtle flavors are strawberry, apple, orange, lemon, pineapple and cherry.  That apple and strawberry does it to me every time and the cherry is like a delicate black cherry flavor.  Texture is perfect!

So I now buy them two bags at a time.  I could buy more, but I must self police and savor them.  No, I haven’t forgotten my Haribo, never will, but these will satisfy diehard gummy bear lovers from time to time…to time.

Give them a try and let me know what you think.  Enjoy!
